History of Lindstrom

The founder of the town was a Swedish immigrant by the name of Daniel Lindstrom who came to American in 1853. The town of Lindstrom was platted in 1880 and incorporation was achieved in 1894. It was reincorporated on April 9, 1908 and had a city charter since 1950. The first post office was established in 1880. The small village had a station of the St. Paul and Duluth Railroad. There were 3 newspapers including a Swedish weekly. Most residents are Swedish immigrants.

Restaurants & Nightlife

Northwoods Roasterie – they serve amazing coffee and bagel sandwiches. Employees are always helpful; service is top notch, and with a pretty laid back vibe.

Swedish Inn — Great restaurant in the city that offers amazing meatballs with lefse and lingonberries. Superb pancakes and specials are always good. Bacon and ham omelettes are quite outstanding.

Pizza Man – Pizza here is fabulous. Ingredients are always fresh and the toppings quite generous. Service is amazing. Quite affordable prices too.

Fun Things to Do in Lindstrom

Visit Chisago County Historical Society – This is the place to go if you want to get a glimpse of the history of the Lindstrom community. There is a research area for folks that want to know more about the city history and genealogy.

Gustaf Anderson Historiska Hus Museet – This is a red brick house that was built way back in 1879 by Gustaf and Helena Anderson. It features a Victorian interior with an Italian style exterior. Prior to becoming a museum, several generations of the family lived in the house. It is located on Main Street and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Swedish Coffee Pot Water Tower – Located at the heart of the city, the blue and white water tower was constructed in 1908 and then later converted to its current coffee shop shape.
