History of Cambridge
Established in the 19th century along the railroad going from Minneapolis to Duluth. Immigrants from New England originally named and settled there. They were considered Yankee settlers because their ancestors were English Puritans who lived in New England during the colonial years. The same group of settlers also founded and named Princeton, a town nearby. Incorporation was achieved in 1876. By the early 20th century, the city had a potato starch factory and a 1,301 barrel flour mill, a wood carding and spinning mill.
