History of Lino Lakes

Immigrants settled in the area around 1850. On the west portion of the lake were the Ramsden, Speiser and Wenzel families while on the east portion were the Cardinals, LaMottes, Houles and Dupres. Many of the first settler’s descendants are still living in Lino Lakes today.  Organized into a township called Centerville on August 11, 1857 with a population of approximately 300 people. Three loosely knit communities are known in the area at the time namely the German settlement west of the lakes, the Swede settlement on the south and the French at the east portion.  The origin of the word “Lino” was unknown, a town board meeting decided to rename it as Lino Lakes and on May 11, 1955, the Village of Lino Lakes got incorporated.

Fiesta Cancun Grill & Bar – Restaurant always serves specials. The quesadilla reliena is truly delicious and the guacamole is the best in the city. Start your meal with the chips and salsa; you’ll definitely love it.

The Tavern on Main – The favorites here are the tater tots, wild rice soup and the wallet sandwich.  Place has a really fun and relaxing atmosphere and the service is superb. They have the best appetizers.

St. Paul Bagelry and Deli – They have the best bagels in the city. The cinnamon raising is fabulous too. They have a good breakfast selection. The homemade cream cheese is very good.

Fun Things to Do in Lino Lakes

There are all softball/baseball fields, 12 soccer fields and 3 ice rinks that you can enjoy in the city. If you like to take a hike or ride your mountain bike, the city has around 30 miles of Trails to enjoy. Visit the 5,500-acre Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park Reserve, considered as one of the biggest parks in the seven-county metropolitan area. You will enjoy the lively native wildlife and water resources. There are also 2 golf facilities namely, Chomonix Golf Course and Shadow Ridge Driving Range.
